• Elegant Sideboard rejuvenated

This charming little sideboard was gathering dust in a furniture thrift store in the south of Germany. It needed a lot of help removing years of grime and layers of furniture polish. It also needed an updated look to bring out its true character. The veneer was that gorgeous red/gold I love and just needed a little stripping and restaining to bring back its vibrancy. The sides and inner space got a Storm colour treatment from the Lignocolor range and I found this bold self-adhesive wall print to act as a contrasting backdrop. The old ‘legs’ were removed and 4…

  • Coffee Table blues

This coffee table is a solid piece of furniture with a well-used facade and colour spectrum that did not match the other pieces in the living space. Nevertheless, it combined a robust space for family gatherings and a showcase area…

  • Humble chest of drawers upgrade

This well-travelled little stunner was hiding behind old paint, years of family use and changing roles. Despite its humble beginnings, the straight lines and simplicity of construction offered a perfect backdrop for a do-over. To be honest, I was a…

  • Family Dining Table Starts New Chapter

This 40-year old dining table was ready for a new chapter in its life. The old brown/black stain hid the gorgeous knotty pine underneath and the countless nicks, scratches and dents made by the family over the years. It was…

This was truly a labour of love. I loved it from the beginning but knew its old cracked finish needed to be replaced. Sadly the cracks on the top went right through the veneer but I was determined to rescue…

  • From sad shabby to charming shabby

I’ve been looking for a little piece to try out an interesting yellow paint I’d recently purchased. When I spotted this item on eBay-Kleinanzeigen, I could already imagine how it would turn out. Unfortunately, I didn’t bargain on how much…

  • Mid-Century sideboard re-imagined

I was looking for something a little different to work with and this mini-sideboard became available. It had some good bones but also needed some repairs. The top was damaged and strips of wood veneer had come off. Halfway through…

  • Seven drawer update

When a friend asked me to update her small chest of drawers currently used in her dining room, I jumped at the chance. It’s a well-made piece of furniture that was needing a little sprucing up. A lover of blue,…

  • Going gold

This three-drawer dresser was in need of an update. Several years ago it was popular to have brown/black furniture and this was no exception. Elegant in its time, it no longer created an inviting atmosphere into the bedroom space. Using…
